Cosy crime fans, rejoice - Netflix has revealed The Thursday Murder Club release date, alongside some first-look images of its incredible cast.

The feature film is of course based on the best-selling book of the same name by Richard Osman - and is directed by Christopher Columbus, no less.

Who stars in The Thursday Murder Club?

The super starry cast includes Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie, who play, respectively, Elizabeth, Ron, Ibrahim and Joyce - four sharp-brained retirees in a home who now spend their time solving cold case murders. Just for fun!

The Thursday Murder Club's plot centres around a murder that occurs on the doorstep of the aforementioned senior citizen sleuths.

A real whodunit to solve is too much for the gang to resist - much to the chagrin of the local police.

Other cast members include David Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Daniel Mays, Jonathan Pryce, Tom Ellis, Naomi Ackie, Henry Lloyd-Hughes, Paul Freeman, Geoff Bell and Ingrid Oliver.

The screenplay has been penned by Katy Brand - who also wrote Good Luck To You, Leo Grand, which stars Emma Thompson - and Suzanne Heathcote.

Joyce (Celia Imrie) is a former nurse - a kind woman who brings a calming influence to the quartet. Policewoman Donna De Freitas (Naomi Mackie) quite quickly recognises the value of the amateur detectives and becomes friends with the group. Former psychiatrist Ibrahim (Ben Kingsley) is the glue that holds the vintage investigation gang together.

Helen Mirren plays Elizabeth, the headstrong ringleader of The Thursday Murder Club, and an ex-spy. Despite her advancing years, she is still as sharp as a pin and should be underestimated at people's peril.

Pierce Brosnan's character Ron is a former trade union leader and has a fiery personality - but is fiercely loyal to his three friends.

What's the release date for The Thursday Murder Club?
