By Helen Fear | Mon Mar 31 2025

The Madame Blanc Mysteries is currently airing its fourth run on Channel 5 and the cosy crime is as popular as ever, leaving plenty of hope for a potential season 5.

The mystery drama stars Sally Lindsay as ex-pat antiques dealer Jean White, living in the fictional French village of Sainte Victoire (although fans will know it's actually filmed in Malta).

Every week, she's joined by a great returning cast, as well as shiny new weekly guests. So will there be a season 5 of The Madame Blanc Mysteries? Here's everything you need to know...

Will there be a season 5 of The Madame Blanc Mysteries?

Cosy crime drama The Madame Blanc Mysteries is broadcast on both Channel 5 and Acorn TV. However, neither channel has confirmed if the series will be returning for a season 5.

At the time of writing, a spokesperson for the show revealed there was no announcement as yet about future series of the Sally Lindsay series.

However, we'd be very surprised if the series wasn't recommissioned due to its popularity.

Like crime dramas Unforgotten, Shetland, The Bay, and The Good Ship Murder, The Madame Blanc Mysteries has the potential to run for years.

Each week, there's a different case, and a new guest cast. Never mind the high fatality rate in Sainte Victoire, it's never stopped Death in Paradise, or Midsomer Murders from being recommissioned!

Does Sally Lindsay want a season 5 of the cosy crime drama?

Sally Lindsay has good news for fans of The Madame Blanc Mysteries. She's revealed she will continue to play the role of Jean White, so long as viewers still want her on screen.

Talking to press ahead of the current series 4, co-creator Sally said: "I'll write it as long as they want it. I won't quit when I'm on a high."

She continued: "I love it so much. I will do it until they want me to not do it, to be honest, because it's such a special thing in my life. And it's such a part of our lives now. And it's great for us because Steve [my husband] does the music as well, so it's something we share. And the boys [twin sons Victor and Louie] come out on our holidays there, and it's just brilliant."

Sally concluded by saying: "It's just really special, so I'll drag it out as long as they want me to. So hopefully it will carry on."

How many seasons are there?

There are currently four seasons of The Madame Blanc Mysteries. Series 1 to 3 are currently available to watch on Channel 5 catch up until mid-April. Then it's likely they'll find their home on Acorn TV. Series 4 is currently airing on Channel 5.

The popular cosy crime series started in 2021. Fans will know that antiques expert Jean White moved to France suspicious of how her husband died. She used her skills to become a private investigator, helping the local police and simultaneously bonding with the town's popular taxi driver Dom…

Series 2 of the show, which was created by its stars Sally Lindsay and Sue Vincent, followed in 2023. Series 3 launched with a fun Christmas special in December 2023.

Series 4 also began with a Christmas special in late 2024, with new episodes coming in 2025.

Does Sally Lindsay write the show?

Former Corrie actress Sally Lindsay co-created and co-writes the series with fellow co-star Sue Vincent, who plays Gloria.

She recently revealed that they sometimes start writing new seasons before the show has actually been renewed.

She explained: "I know it doesn't seem complex, but it's a very complex show to write because you've got your A and B storylines, you want all your characters involved.

"You've also got to have specific research on killing people, so that takes ages to get right, and also to get it signed off because some things can be quite gruesome - so it's quite complicated. Even though you've got an idea, you might not be able to put it on TV."

She added: "So we probably give ourselves a week off, and then we start plotting it again. We just write it and see, just get on with it and hope it happens, in a sort of egoless way, and mostly it does."
