The Game on Channel 5: Cast of cat-and-mouse psychological thriller led by Robson Green and Jason Watkins
By Helen Fear | Sun May 11 2025The Game is the latest series from Channel 5, best known for its bonkers thrillers - and, this time, the broadcaster has outdone itself with two TV legends in the cast.
Four-parter The Game follows C5 series such as The Feud, The Au Pair, and The Drowning, and promises to be every bit as juicy... But, you have to remember the two magic words for maximum enjoyment - you have to "suspend disbelief" throughout.
Here's everything you need to know about the cast of the cat-and-mouse Channel 5 thriller, led by TV favourites Jason Watkins and Robson Green.

The Game on Channel 5 cast: Jason Watkins plays Huw Miller
Shropshire-born Jason Watkins - who can only be described as adorable with a capital A - leads the cast of Channel 5's The Game. He plays retired detective Huw Miller, who finds himself drawn back into an unsolved case that continues to haunt him - and things soon take a chilling turn.
The 62-year-old actor is one of our most bankable TV actors. More recently, he's probably best known for playing geeky DS Dodds in the sadly now axed McDonald & Dodds. But he's actually been on our screens for nearly four decades - in fact, his very first TV role was playing Gerry in EastEnders in 1987.
Jason's most famous roles include portraying Brian Masters in Des, Christopher Jefferies in The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies, and the ill-fated FC Tim Ifield in Line of Duty.
He's just as well known for his comedic roles, too, and has entertained us as Gavin Strong in Trollied, Simon Harwood in W1A, and Gordon Shakespeare in the film series Nativity.
Other notable roles include vampire leader William Herrick in Being Human, Harold Wilson in The Crown, Bernard Fortescue in Around the World in 80 Days, and Plornish in the 2008 BBC production of Little Dorrit.
This isn't Jason's first Channel 5 thriller, either. He's previously appeared in 2024's Coma, and 2023's The Catch.
As well as The Game, the actor will soon appear in the film Dragonfly, opposite Black Mirror actress and Vera star Brenda Blethyn.

Robson Green stars as new neighbour Patrick Harbottle
TV favourite Robson Green - he of the sparkling blue eyes and impish smile - portrays the morally ambiguous Patrick Harbottle. Patrick is Huw's new neighbour, who may or may not be Huw's old nemesis The Ripton Stalker.
Of course, like his co-star Jason, Robson is no stranger to TV viewers. Far from it! He's been on our screens for more than 30 years, having started his career playing the cheeky porter Jimmy Powell in Casualty between 1989 to 1992.
Hexham-born Robson, 60, went on to become one of the UK's most popular TV actors. He played the leading roles of Fusilier Dave Tucker in Soldier Soldier, DI Dave Creegan in Touching Evil, Joe Purvis in Grafters, and Dr Tony Hill in Wire in the Blood.
Other notable early roles include John Close in legal drama Close & True, Jack Chambers in Take Me, Jack Chambers in Trust, and George Stevenson in Rocket Man.
In 2006, Robson played Colin in the sitcom Northern Lights, beginning a successful onscreen partnership with Shakespeare and Hathaway star Mark Benton (another ridiculously likeable TV star). They went on to reprise their roles in City Lights, and Clash of the Santas.
More recently, Robson has portrayed Rob Scotcher in Waterloo Road, Chris in Mount Pleasant, Lt. Col. Philip Locke in Strike Back, and Teddy in Age Before Beauty.
Since 2014, the actor has portrayed DI Geordie Keating in the period detective drama Grantchester, which will soon be returning for its 10 series.

Have Jason Watkins and Robson Green worked together before?
Yes, Jason Watkins and Robson Green have worked together before. The actors first appeared together more than 30 years ago in one episode of the ITV drama Soldier Soldier.
Robson played the main character of Fusilier Dave Tucker, an officer of the King's Own Fusiliers regiment. While a youthful Jason popped up as Cpl Geoff Porter of the Territorial Army. In the 1991 episode, the King's Own Fusiliers regiment are partnered with the Territorial Army in an exercise. It was one of Jason's first ever TV roles.
The pair later starred in the BBC show Being Human. Jason played vampire Herrick between 2009 and 2011, while Robson portrayed werewolf McNair in four episodes in 2011.
However, The Game is the first time Jason and Robson have played the lead roles opposite each other.
Talking about working with Jason, Robson told us: "The last time I played a villain of any kind was alongside Jason Watkins in Being Human in 2011. I was a character called McNair who at night turned into a werewolf [Jason played Herrick] McNair was a killer. He tortured people both psychologically and physically."
He went on to say: "Jason had a cameo in Soldier Soldier in the very early 90s. Immediately we knew 'that guy is gonna fly'. He was so confident as an actor and so truthful and lovely with it. I love being alongside his commitment, his irrepressible passion, and his ability to tell the truth and play moment to moment. It's a joy to be inspired by him.
"When I was told that Jason was attached to The Game, it was a no brainer. I love the man. He's in my top five actors of all time. You are just compelled to watch him."
