Of course, fans know he's not really going anywhere - after all, actor Don Gilet confirmed as much recently when he revealed he'd be returning for series 15.
In episode 8 of the current season, Mervin is about to fly home when he finds himself at the centre of a murder investigation... Rare bird.
But it's not just an murder - the body of a dead woman is discovered in his shack! Even more curiouser, the building was locked with no sign of forced entry.

Lyndsey Marshal plays Sadie Jones in cast of Death in Paradise
Manchester-born actress Lyndsey Marshal, 46, guest stars as Sadie Jones in the cast of the crime drama.
The character of Sadie is crucial to discovering the identity of the mystery woman found dead in Merv's shack. They eventually discover that she was volunteering at a local turtle conservation charity, which is where Sadie comes in.
Lyndsey is perhaps best known for for playing Cleopatra in HBO's Rome between 2005 and 2007, or Lady Sarah Hill in Garrow's Law from 2009 to 2011.
Her very first TV performance was in 2000, when she played Natalie Pearce in Peak Practice. She went on to appear in TV series such as Midsomer Murders, Born and Bred, Poirot, and Marple - yes, she obviously loves a good mystery!
Other notable roles include Prof. Lucy Jaggat in Humans, Mabel Watson in Titanic, Lucy Demoys in Blackout, Rachel in Hanna, and Mary Watling in Inside Man.
More recently, Lyndsey starred as Caroline Mitchell in ITV thriller Insomnia. Her famous film roles include Jessica in Julie Walters drama A Short Stay in Switzerland, and Lottie Hope in The Hours.
Rupert Young portrays Callum Jones
London-born Rupert Young, 46, joins the cast of Death in Paradise as Callum Jones, another volunteer at a local turtle conservation charity.
Rupert is probably best known for portraying Sir Leon in the BBC drama series Merlin, a role he played from 2009 to 2012.
He's also famous for playing Lord Featherington in the Netflix series Bridgerton in 2022's season 2.
Other notable roles include Adrian Pitts in Doc Martin opposite Martin Clunes, Sir Walter Raleigh in Will, and James Byron in Judge Rinder's Crown Court.
Rupert is also known for his extensive theatre work, not least playing Larry Murphy in the West End debut of the stage show Dear Evan Hansen at the Noël Coward Theatre. He was later nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actor in a Supporting Role in a Musical for his performance.

Meanwhile, BRIT School graduate Lily Nichol portrays Rosa Martinez. Lily's first significant TV role was playing Dory in one episode of I Hate Suzie, opposite Billie Piper.
She has since starred as Poppy in The South Westerlies, Ellie in Lockwood & Co., and Becky Trotter in Renegade Nell.
Lastly, Nia Anisah stars as Estelle Laroche. Nia Anisah is a London-born actor of Caribbean heritage. So far, the relative youngster has played Joy Sanderling in Magpie Murders, and Evie in The Doll Factory.
