The Au Pair on Channel 5: Five best bingeworthy thrillers on My5 if you enjoyed the Sally Bretton series
By Helen Fear | Mon Mar 10 2025The Au Pair is the latest thriller to land on Channel 5 and, if you're a fan of The Wives and The Castaways, you won't be disappointed - so what are the best series you can watch on My5 right now?
The new four-parter follows a long line of thrillers that do exactly what they say on the box - keep us entertained! Yes, some of them may be a little bonkers, but they're fun, and pure escapism. What's not to love?
The best thrillers combine a twisty plot, with a killer cast, and easily-digestible episodes. Here are the five best thrillers on My5 right now if you enjoyed watching The Au Pair...

Best thrillers on My5: The Castaways
Although not a Channel 5 original, this aired in January 2025 and remains on My5 after first showing on Paramount+.
And it's everything you want from a mini-series - a beautiful location, twisty plot, and a cast led by the ever-reliable Sheridan Smith and Céline Buckens.
The Castaways follows sisters Lori and Erin as they embark on the holiday of a lifetime in Fiji, but the dream trip soon turns into a nightmare... Not for us viewers, though. For us, it's a blast (to watch).
The five-parter sees the sisters separated after a huge fight, when Erin fails to board a flight to an island. And the plane, with Lori on board, never arrives at its destination...
Both sisters embark on a very different journey of discovery - with both ultimately fighting for survival.
The Castaways on Channel 5 is based on the Lucy Clarke bestselling novel of the same name, which was published in 2021.

The Wives
The cast of six-part series The Wives is absolutely heaving with some of our favourite TV actresses and, once again, filmed in a beautiful location. Win/win.
Jo Joyner, Angela Griffin, and Tamzin Outhwaite join forces in the mystery drama that follows the "unravelling of one family in a summer that changes all their lives".
The domestic thriller follows four sisters-in-law who, with their families, have always escaped to their Maltese holiday apartments. They've done so every summer for 10 years.
However, a lot has changed in 12 months. The previous year, Sylvie was happily married, while Natasha was filthy rich. Meanwhile, Beth and Annabelle Morgan were thick as thieves.
But now, as they come together again, one sister is noticeably absent. Annabelle is missing, presumed dead, having disappeared the previous year in Malta. But that hasn't stopped the families from returning...
As the holiday progresses, Beth's suspicions about Annabelle's death are heightened. What really happened to her?

Best channel 5 thrillers: The Inheritance
The Inheritance is arguably THE best thriller to air on Channel 5 ever. After dozens of promising but not quite perfect dramas over the past decade, C5 finally nailed it with this four-part series.
It introduces three siblings - Daniel, Sian and Chloe - who are horrified to discover they aren't in line to inherit their father's estate after his suspicious death. And every episode delivers a potent punch of twists and eye-popping revelations.
They embark on a dangerous journey to find out whether his death was truly a tragic accident, or whether it was in fact murder.
A C5 synopsis says: "Secrets are exploded, relationships ripped apart, and lives lost as they try desperately to claw back their inheritance and make sense of what is happening around them, asking is blood really thicker than water?"
It stars Gaynor Faye, Robert James-Collier, and Jemima Rooper as the siblings ripped apart after the death of their dad (Larry Lamb). Adil Ray, Kevin Whately, and Samantha Bond also appear.

The Ex-Wife
Four-part thriller The Ex-Wife first aired on Paramount before finding its home on Channel 5.
It introduces newly-married Tasha (Showtrial actress Céline Buckens), who appears to be living the dream. She has a beautiful London home, a loving and successful husband in Jack, and a gorgeous little girl, Emily. Everything would be perfect if only her husband's ex-wife Jen would leave them alone.
After a series of increasingly intrusive encounters, Tasha begins to think Jen might be trying to manipulate her way back into Jack's life – but is Tasha just being paranoid?
A series 2 of The Ex-Wife will be landing in 2025, and quite right too!

Best thrillers on My5: The Teacher
Sheridan Smith-thriller The Teacher explores consent. The four-parter follows a teacher who is accused of a sexual encounter with a pupil. Of course, her whole life is turned upside down with the accusation. If only she'd been sober enough to remember what had actually happened...
The synopsis reads: "With no memory of the night in question, Jenna's only hope of redemption lies in uncovering the truth about a dark event in her past that returns to haunt her."
Am I Being Unreasonable? actor Samuel Bottomley plays the student at the centre of it all. Additional stars include Strictly winner and former Emmerdale actor, Kelvin Fletcher, who plays Jenna's love interest.
The first series was so successful that a second series, with a different cast, was also commissioned. Series 2 starred Kara Tointon, Will Mellor, and Emmett J Scanlan. Both series are currently available to watch on My5.

What other good thrillers are on My5?
Although more of a crime drama, Ellis received rave reviews when it landed on Channel 5 in 2024. Sharon D Clarke led the cast as DCI Ellis, a tenacious cop who is "parachuted into failing investigations".
Meanwhile, fans of cosy crime have two series of The Good Ship Murder to binge on My5. Each episode solves a different crime, so you can dip in and out. And the guest cast is jam-packed with famous faces, including the likes of Mark McGann, and Duncan Preston.
And watch this space for The Madame Blanc Mysteries series 4 which will arrive on Channel 5 in March.
