By Helen Fear | Sat May 17 2025

Code of Silence is the latest crime thriller to land on ITV, with a cast jam-packed with famous TV faces, not least Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis in her very first leading role.

ITV has described the role as "groundbreaking". Like the recent drama Reunion on BBC One, which also starred Rose, Code of Silence aims to "bring important representation for the deaf community".

The six-parter follows a self-taught lip reader who is asked to use her skills to spy on a dangerous gang. Step forward 'Cruella', 'Hulk', and 'Wolf', played by Beth Goddard, Joe Absolom, and Andrew Scarborough. And the cast of Code of Silence just gets better...

Here's a rundown of who plays who in the ITV thriller, and where you've seen them before...

Rose Ayling-Ellis leads the cast as Alison Woods in the cast of ITV's Code of Silence

Kent-born actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, 30, portrays Alison Brooks in the ITV thriller. Alison is an undervalued deaf woman who has spent years working in a police canteen secretly observing conversations...

She's thrilled when she's asked to do some lip-reading for two top detectives. They need her help spying on a criminal gang plotting a high-stakes heist. But Alison becomes dangerously obsessed with the case.

EastEnders fans will know Rose for playing Frankie Lewis in the BBC soap from 2020 to 2022. Frankie arrived in the Square as a friend to Ben Mitchell. Rose was the first deaf actor to play a regular deaf character on the show.

During her time in Walford, she was at the centre of some big storylines. She discovered she was the daughter of Mick Carter, who unknowingly fathered her after he was abused as a child by her mother.

Other notable TV roles include Bianca Sinclair in Casualty, and Esther in Keeley Hawes drama Summer of Rockets.

Of course, Rose also won the 19th series of Strictly Come Dancing with  Giovanni Pernice in 2021. At the time, she was the programme's first deaf contestant.

More recently, Rose portrayed Catherine in an episode of Murder, They Hope, and Ms Freya Chordwell in Ludwig. She also played Christine's daughter Miri in the cast of Reunion on BBC One.

Of course, Charlotte is probably better known for playing Nurse Barbara Hereward in Call the Midwife, a role she played from 2015 to 2018. A vicar's daughter, Barbara was hard-working, diligent, and caring - and also very popular with Call the Midwife fans, who were devastated when the character died of complications from meningitis.

Grantchester fans will know Charlotte for playing young widow and mum Bonnie Evans, who became the wife of Tom Brittney's character Will Davenport. Both left the ITV detective series in 2024.
