The Madame Blanc Mysteries series 4: Romance brewing for Patrick and Gloria?
By Dave Golder |Are Patrick and Gloria in The Madame Blanc Mysteries going to get together, adding more romance to the cosy crime drama?
Series 4 is certainly hinting at a potential new love match in Sainte Victoire.
In episode 1, they made a great, light-hearted crime-fighting team investigating a case of suspicious-tasting wine, while Jean and co. took care of the week's murder.
And the two musos further bonded over their mutual love of classic rock.
When Patrick admired Gloria’s spanking new “Glorious Gloria’s Garage” van, Gloria replied: “I’ve called her Electric Lady Van.”
Patrick immediately understood the reference, shooting back. “Like the Hendrix album, Electric Ladyland.”
Gloria and Patrick's lyrical love language
Gloria beamed like she’d found her soul mate. As the banter went on, she and Patrick discovered they even share the same favourite track from the album, All Along The Watchtower. (Sadly they got into the van and drove off before they could give their opinion of the U2 cover version of the song – we assume it wouldn’t have been favourable.)
This little moment is not the first time Gloria and Patrick have become all dewy-eyed over their similar tastes in music. Back in episode 3 of series 3, just after Patrick had taken over running La Couronne, he was serving Gloria some monkfish when he commented on her “Sunshine Of Your Love” T-shirt, asking her which version she preferred.
This led to them both gushing about Thelonius Monk (hence the monkfish, maybe?), Ella Fitzgerald and obscure US soul singer Spanky Wilson.

Another Madame Blanc Mysteries will-they-won’t-they love tease?
So, is there new romance on the horizon for The Madame Blanc Mysteries, now Jean and Dom have finally got together? Gloria certainly needs some good news on the man front.
Jean ended the last series wishing Gloria could find the “right one”. That was after Gloria’s “boyfriend”, Cooper, was outed as a two-timing creep with a wife and kids, not to mention a criminal past (though Jean and Charlie spared Gloria from learning the truth, forcing Cooper to break off the relationship instead).
But Sue Vincent, who plays Gloria and co-writes the series, is adamant that there are no immediate plans for Patrick and Gloria to hook up.
"Everybody's expecting her to meet a new man"
“After what she went through in the last series, everybody's expecting her to meet a new man, so we’ve deliberately not done that because we wanted her to come into her own, not be lost looking for someone,” she says.
“She's very much got her sense of self, and she's got a great friendship with Patrick, but it's not romantic with those two. The first time she went into La Couronne and mentioned Thelonious Monk in the presence of Patrick, it became muso love. I get that. I walked out of a date with someone once because they said they thought The Beatles were overrated.”

This was an experience that made it into the show as well last year, as Gloria cut short a date when the guy dissed the Liverpudlian mop tops.
Jean and Dom a done love deal
Let's not lose hope yet, though. Now the will-they-won't-they? Jean and Dom intrigue has been wrapped up, The Madame Blanc Mysteries needs another romance plot thread to keep viewers guessing, beyond the murder whodunit each episode.
Don’t be surprised if the series is playing the long game here – a cunning plan, perhaps, as one of Tony Robinson’s former characters used to say?
